Sonae UK Ltd continuously strives to improve its environmental performance in terms of both its product and processes.  Fundamental to this are its environmental management systems which form the basis of the aim within the business to keep sustainable development as a top priority and a key factor in procurement, technologies, manufacturing processes and product development.

The Knowsley plant which opened in July 2000 was specifically designed to use recycled wood fibre.  Currently around 98% of material used at Knowsley is recycled. 

Environmental Management

Sonae is committed to meeting its legal (environmental) responsibilities and the Knowsley site operates an Environmental Management System (EMS) to the ISO 14001 standard (Certification/Quality).  The EMS covers all aspects of raw material supply and production. The Knowsley site also adheres to a Sonae Industria Group Environmental Policy.

• Improvement in safety, hygiene and health in the workplace

• Minimisation of the impact of its industrial facilities on their locations and on the environment

The Knowsley site has recently appointed a dedicated Environment Manager to oversee environmental issues at the site.
