Chipboard is the core of our product range and a versatile product in terms of its uses and applications.  Suitable for all general purposes in construction and furniture manufacture, in dry or occasionally wet conditions or for fire retardant applications.  Chipboard can be used as raw board or surfaced with wood veneers, melamine decorative papers or foils.

Available in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses Sonae’s chipboard from Knowsley uses 98% recycled wood waste whilst maintaining quality and technical properties.  Recycling is the core of our business.

Available in 2440mm x 1220mm and 2400mm x 600mm and with a cut to size facility. Consistent high quality however you cut it.

P1 Standard Chipboard

Sonae standard chipboard is produced in accordance with BS EN 312 and meets all European industry standards.  Unlike other UK manufacturers Sonae chipboard uses almost 100% recycled material, whilst retaining its FSC accreditation with a minimum of 60% post consumer material.  It can be used for most general joinery requirements and can be used in various manufacturing processes.

P2 Furniture Grade Chipboard

This grade of chipboard is the standard required in the manufacturing of melamine faced, veneered and other surfaced applications.  In its surfaced form, this grade of board is used in the manufacture of kitchen and bedroom furniture. 

P3 Moisture Resistant Furniture Grade

Moisture resistant furniture grade chipboard is a new standard product introduced to the Sonae range.  It has the same mechanical properties as P2, but has the added value of moisture resistant properties.

Domestic Flooring P4 T&G

Specifically designed for domestic flooring.  This quality product is manufactured with the latest technology ensuring the boards meet the highest standards.

Moisture Resistant Domestic Flooring P5 T&G

Available in both 18mm and 22mm this product can be used for both domestic and industrial purposes.  All products are produced in accordance with CE legislation and all packing on the product identifies its suitability for use in construction processes.

P5 os also available with an enhanced Class O foil for extra fire retardancy.  This is applied by our partner in innovation, TFS.

Safedek

A textured polypropylene film applied by TFS provides an anti slip resistant and waterproof layer to this moisture resistant P5 T&G flooring product to protect the surface during building works.  The film is strong enough to resist tearing and impact stresses.  Upon completion of building work it is easily removed to leave a clean, dry floor covering. Available in 18mm and 22mm with adhesive jointing tape and Kwik Fix glue.

P6 Industrial Flooring

A heavy duty load bearing chipboard for industrial use in dry conditions where its high strength properties allow it to withstand specified loads.  P6 Industrial Flooring from Sonae can be used in platform and computer flooring, racking systems and shelving. 

Boards are generally supplied as cut to size square edged panels for use as a composite in the production of metal cases for use in the access flooring market. Whilst the thin metal casing provides some protection to cabling from damage by fire etc the chipboard composite provides structural integrity and commercial/industrial load bearing requirement. Chipboard products for use in accesss flooring are available in standard thicknesses of 25mm, 30mm and 38mm and are normally requested as nomimal 600mm x 600mm squares.

Mezzdek

This 38mm product is designed specifically for the mezzanine floor market.  With load bearing properties Mezzdek also has enhanced moisture resistant characteristics designed for usage where water damage may occur on unprotected floor bases.

Mezzdek Class O

Mezzdek Class O all the properties of Mezzdek but also has a fire retardant, light reflective silver foil applied as a barrier to heat and flame.  Tested in accordance with BS476 Part 6 and BS 476 Part 7, for fire propagation and surface spread of flame respectively.

T-Dek

High performance rigid extruded polystyrene insulation panel bonded onto tongue and groove 18mm chipboard for insulated floating and suspended floors.

Loftpack/Door Cores

Specially cut from P4 board wit T&G profiles for ease of use in DIY applcations.  Three handy size panels are available in shrink wrapped packs which pass through standard loft trap doors.

Sonae also produce door cores, or door blanks as they are called.
